Landscape Design - Well Balanced Home Landscaping Posted by nick_niesen on November 1st Marouane Fellaini Jersey , 2010
Balance is a principle of all art forms, design, and even landscape design. It implies a sense of equality. And while there may be just a little more to it, this is how I explain it to make it easier for first timers and do it yourselfers to understand.
A garden, landscape, or any form of equal proportions would naturally feel and look balanced. However Marcus Rashford Jersey , most gardens and landscapes are not exact or symmetrical in shape and form. They聮re asymmetrical and abstract in form and are often without any natural balance of their own. So landscaping often relies on other elements to create balance and harmony through unity.
Many times, a lack of balance is directly related to a lack of repetition. Repeating alike elements such as plants or rocks throughout the landscape will help unify different areas to each other. As little as one repeated matching plant group, color, piece of decor, or hardscape can accomplish this.
A lack of balance is also created by placing too many or all non matching elements throughout a landscape design. This can sometimes seem cluttered and unkept when it grows in. In the beginning of your design, plan for less Marcos Rojo Jersey , place just a few matching plant groups throughout the garden, and keep decor matching and to a minimum. You can add more later.
So many of the questions that I receive about landscape design deal with the shape of a design . Shape is unique to each design and will ultimately follow all necessary paths and your visions. However, any shape or form can be filled with elements and still be either dull, void, loud, cluttered Luke Shaw Jersey , and unbalanced. Balance isn聮t necessarily dependant on shape. It can be but generally it聮s not. So don聮t get too hung up on trying to even things out entirely by shape.
Landscape design is an art form and so it deals with "all" the same principles that other art forms use. Repetition, unity, and balance are all principles of art that go hand in hand with each other.
Architects use repetition in design by making doors, windows, fixtures, trims Kieran O'Hara Jersey , etc. the same sizes, shapes, and styles. Imagine how your home would feel if every door, door frame, window, and fixture were of different sizes Juan Mata Jersey , shapes, colors, and types. It would be uncomfortable and chaotic.
And so it聮s the same with landscape design.
In order to create balance, appeal, and even comfort in a landscape that is lacking, we need to create some form of consistent repetition. As little as one matching element placed on opposites can create a sense of unity and consistency.
It's easiest and most often created in the softscape (plants Joel Castro Pereira Jersey , ornaments, lawn, decor, etc.). However, it should be considered in the hardscape (walks, driveways Jesse Lingard Jersey , necessities, fences, walls, raised beds, boundaries, etc.) of your drawn design plan.
Everyone has a home project haunting them from their past. The objective was to upgrade their existing home Henrikh Mkhitaryan Jersey , but it just didn't turn out the way they originally envisioned. When this happens, what do you do now? I always smile and say ?Punt!? In the real world we can't punt, but we do have choices. One solution is to make it a work of modern art or the more common decision is to fix the problem and finish as planned.
Let's assume you have all the correct tools and are skilled on how to use them. If you are having problems using your tools, you might want to find a contractor to fix your project. So what was the original problem that caused your project to fail? I can answer that in a few short words for a large majority of failed projects, lack of correct pre-planning. The really comical thought is that to discover the problem on your failed project is the same process as doing a proper pre-plan.
The purpose of this article is to explain a concept so we will use an extremely simple problem, however the process will work on all types and sizes of projects. You just installed a new sink in your master bathroom. The color and texture and size are all correct but for some reason it just doesn't line up with the existing countertop and wobbles from end to end. Along the way you must have forgotten a step or took a shortcut to have caused this. The way to fix this problem is obviously to pull the sink out and figure out how to install it correctly. Before you do this Eric Bailly Jersey , do a work breakdown structure (WBS). This is a common pre-plan task all good managers working on high dollar projects use. This is a practice that also applies to home projects and is a useful way to find your fix. A WBS is exactly as it states, your work broken down and itemized creating a structure and path to follow.
Start at the top of your paper pad and state your objective. In our example we will use ?Install a new sink.? Then we divide that objective into deliverables. In the sink example I write; purchase the sink, remove the old sink, prepare countertop, and prepare plumbing. Next we have to further divide these again into assignments.
