Skyfall (2012) is a film that cuts across geographical boundaries as the main character James Bond moves across different cities across the world. At the beginning of the film, James Bond is in Istanbul chasing a mercenary. Later Maglia Roberto Gagliardini , Bond is also seen to be in London, the headquarters of the intelligence service. Another scene also shows him in Shanghai in the quest for finding the leader of a cyber terrorist group that is responsible for hacking into the MI6鈥檚 servers. James Bond travels all the way to Macau in search of the cyber terrorist leader. The ending scenes of the film are at Skyfall, James Bond childhood home in Scottish Highland. In short Maglia Samir Handanovic , the film effectively crosses borders without losing its plot and story line. Ang Lee鈥檚 Crouching Tiger a traditional movie in its right. The setting of the film was the 18th century when dynasties existed. Unlike Skyfall that sees the main characters move to different cities across the globe, Ang Lee鈥檚 film focuses on China and the demonstration of the Chinese culture. Viewers are thus removed from their timeline and taken to the timeline of Qing dynasty. Unlike Skyfall where the characters have up to date technologies and weaponry, Crouching Tiger takes viewers to the era of emperor鈥檚 and swords. The director鈥檚 emphasis on martial arts is evident as the characters (Yu Shu Lein Maglia Inter Milano , Mu Bai, Jen, and Fox) demonstrate high mastery of martial arts. James Cameron鈥檚 film the Avatar (2009) is another film that takes viewers from their world and time zone to a world of aliens. The film is futuristic as viewers are taken to the future. Viewers find themselves at a period where Earth has depleted its natural resources and is thus seeking alternatives where they find Pandora. There is a movement of characters between Earth and Pandora (a habitable moon beyond Earth. Pandora鈥檚 atmosphere is poisonous to humans thus the creation of Navi-human hybrids known as the Avatars. The avatars can survive Pandora鈥檚 environment. Cameron takes viewers through the first encounter between human beings and the natives of Pandora (known as Navi) as Jake鈥檚 Avatar meets Neytiri Maglia Keita Balde , a female Navi. Jake鈥檚 can connect and blend with the people and wildlife at Pandora. In the end, viewers watch as Jake and a few other humans are transformed into permanent avatars thus allowing them to live in Pandora forever. Modernity vs. Tradition The three films highlight the issues of modernity versus tradition in various ways. Skyfall is purely modern and scientific. I focus on intelligence services and spies. The level of technology evident in the film is high tech. For instance, James Bond is given a pistol that can only fire if its register Bond鈥檚 fingerprints. The use of such technology is Sam Mendes ways of showing viewers that the film is in touch with modern times and developments. There is also evidence of technology as James Bond uses a Sony smartphone. The phone serves more purposes beyond making and receiving phone calls. It allows the main character to make video calls whenever needed. James Bond can also use the phone to send silent messages and track people using the GPS. Skyfall is unlike the previous James Bond films as it incorporates extensive technologies that were non-existent in other James Bond films shot over a decade ago. The avatar takes a different approach compared to Skyfall and Crouching Tigers. While the film is shot in the future Maglia Joao Mario , it incorporates the traditional aspects as experienced in Pandora. The earth is struggling with limited resources as humankind has depleted earth鈥檚 resources. Viewers witness Pandora, a place that is almost like earth. Pandora has plants, rainforests Maglia Lautaro Martinez , animals, the Navi鈥檚, and water bodies just like earth. However Maglia Sime Vrsaljko , it becomes apparent that the inhabitants of Pandora are conservative of their environment compared to human being, on Earth. Human beings are presented as insatiable as they encounter Pandora and decide to explore it for mineral unobtanium. The Navi鈥檚 on the other hand, have established a form of symbiotic relationship with their environment. They worship gods and goddesses and can connect with nature as evident through the Tree of Souls. Throughout the film Maglia Antonio Candreva , viewers get to see why Pandora continues to thrive while earth is about to collapse due to depleted resources. The movie directors may have deliberately given viewers the perspective of the two planets so that viewers have something to ponder about concerning the environment and levels of environmental degradation on earth.
